I am a high school teacher in Western Massachusetts. As an educator, I find joy working in classrooms that emphasize creativity, personal agency, self-efficacy, and community. I strive to make my lessons matter, and to enable students to make connections between the reading and writing they do in class, their own lives, and the world outside our classroom.
I also find joy in all my "extracurriculars" -- from weaving to skiing to gardening to map collecting to playing Dungeons & Dragons! Few things bring me more excitement than learning something new.
I volunteer extensively with Destination Imagination, an international organization for youth that teaches creative problem solving and teamwork skills.
I love writing, illustration, design, and am currently teaching myself animation.
I received my Bachelor's degree from Hampshire College and my Masters of Arts in Liberal Studies at Dartmouth College.
I live with my husband, David Jonathan Ross, a typeface designer, our dog Lily, and our young twin daughters. We live in one of the Hilltowns, about 25 minutes north of Northampton. Our house is located at the end of a half-mile driveway, on 35 mostly-wooded acres.
