I created this 60+ page guidebook while working at Deerfield Academy as the Research, Innovation, and Outreach Coordinator, the Director of the Innovation Lab (the school's hands-on makerspace), and as an English teacher.
I set out with three main goals:
To celebrate my love of Western Massachusetts!
To help new faculty and staff at a rural boarding school adjust to life in Western Mass.
To teach myself more about layout, graphic design, and specific software, such as Adobe InDesign.
To the left is a copy of the entire guide; below are images of sample pages (in no particular order).
In my role as publications director for Innovation Academy Charter School, I founded Outcomes, the school’s magazine for alumni, family, and friends. Through this work, I helped communicate the school’s progressive approach to education and commitment to project-based, real world learning. I wrote a wide range of articles that highlighted classroom units and projects, innovative programs, student work, and faculty and alumni’s accomplishments.
I was the only employee in the publications office, so I wore many hats: I conceptualized each issue, developed article topics, and conducted interviews with parents, students, faculty, and alumni; I wrote, edited, and copy-edited all articles; I took photographs, and completed the design and layout of each issue.
Below are sample pages/spreads from various issues.
